80 bilion SMS dalam setahun

KUALA LUMPUR - Para pengguna telefon bimbit di negara ini menghantar kira-kira 80 bilion khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) dan khidmat mesej multimedia (MMS) tahun lalu, meningkat empat kali ganda berbanding tahun 2008.

Berdasarkan kiraan kasar, jika caj purata perkhidmatan yang dikenakan ialah 20 sen bagi setiap penghantaran, bermakna mereka sudah membelanjakan lebih RM16 bilion untuk SMS dan MMS.

Timbalan Menteri Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum berkata, pengguna telefon bimbit tidak perlu bimbang kandungan SMS dan MMS mereka itu dipantau kerana tahap kerahsiaan serta hak peribadi pelanggan tetap dilindungi.

"Syarikat telekomunikasi tidak menyimpan kandungan SMS, MMS ataupun panggilan video pelanggan.

"Mereka hanya menyimpan log transaksi selama 12 bulan untuk tujuan pengeluaran bil jika wujud pertikaian,'' jelasnya ketika menjawab soalan Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) di Dewan Rakyat semalam.
